Aug 18, 2009 – “Something New” is a 2006 American romantic film directed by Sanaa Hamri. The film is about Kenya Denise McQueen (Sanaa Lathan), a hard working career woman who is up for partner in her accounting firm.
In this film, Kenya has all the things needed in her life like a great job, friends and family who love her, top-notch education, etc. Even though, she feels quite unlucky for not having a romantic relationship. Kenya is quite guarded and wary of love. She is single, lives in Los Angeles and bought her first house. Kenya is a woman who wants a social life, but never has time to go for it.
After spending Valentine’s Day with her girlfriends Cheryl (Wendy Raquel Robinson), Nedra (Taraji P. Henson), and Suzette (Golden Brooks), Kenya agrees that she needs be more open to getting out there and dating. Urged on by her friends to try something new, she accepts a blind date with an architectural landscaper named Brian, only to cut the date short upon first sight, because Brian is white. The two meet again at a party, and Kenya hires Brian to landscape to her new home.
Form here begins a bumpy but increasingly sparking relationship, despite opposition from Kenya's friends and family, as well as Kenya and Brian's own internal resistance. After a while, this relationship turns out to be not exactly what Kenya has pictured for her. After a terrible disappointment,
